Travel and logistics
You have the possibility of many choices of flights (regular or low cost lines) to come to the Canaries. For El Hierro, you have to go through Tenerife or Gran Canaria (capitals) then take a national flight or ferry).
On site, car rental is highly recommended and favored over public (and cheap) transport.
Accommodation and restaurants are in keeping with the simplicity and the desire to preserve the island, which refuses mass tourism.
The Canaries, although autonomous, are dependent on the Spanish government. El Hierro is therefore in EUROPE.
The currency is therefore EURO and the IDENTITY CARD or PASSPORT are valid.
The electrical outlets are to European standards (220v).
The official language is SPANISH.
There is ONE HOUR TIME DIFFERENCE with France, Switzerland or Belgium.
There is WIFI in most accommodations and cafes / restaurants on the island.
It is between 20°C and 30°C all year round in La Restinga which is the warmest and most sheltered place on the island. The wind (Alyzé) can blow during the summer (July-August) and cooler temperatures can be reached at altitude and in the humid forest.
Canary Islands are really easy to reach, especially from Europe.
